Summit held to promote digital literacy

Initiatives announced to protect youth online, expand safety awareness

ISLAMABAD:

TikTok, in collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), hosted the Youth Safety Summit Pakistan to raise awareness about online safety, promote digital literacy, and foster collaboration among stakeholders to protect Pakistani youth.

The summit brought together representatives from government, law enforcement, educators, parents, child protection NGOs, and industry experts to address key issues of youth and minor safety online.

A highlight of the event was the 'Digital Hifazat' initiative, a joint effort by TikTok and PTA to promote online safety and digital literacy among youth. PTA also presented its initiatives aimed at creating a safer digital environment, emphasising child protection in cyberspace.

TikTok showcased its commitment to safety through features like Family Pairing, Community Guidelines, and the Youth Safety Portal, designed to empower parents and educators in ensuring a secure online experience for children.

A panel discussion on "Enhancing Child Online Safety" featured representatives from PTA, CERT, UNICEF Pakistan, and SAHIL, offering diverse insights on online protection strategies.

PTA Chairman Major General (R) Hafeezur Rehman reaffirmed the authority's commitment to fostering a safe digital environment, stating, "This summit marks a significant step in our mission to secure a safe and inclusive digital ecosystem for Pakistan's youth."

TikTok's Director of Government Relations and Public Policy, Emir Gelen, reiterated the platform's dedication to promoting digital literacy and online safety, calling the summit an important milestone in their collaboration with PTA.
