Storm Reid, who portrayed Gia Bennett in HBO’s acclaimed series Euphoria, has confirmed her departure ahead of its much-anticipated third season.

Speaking at the Governors Awards, the 21-year-old actor revealed she will not reprise her role, stating, “I’m so glad that that’s a part of my legacy.” Reid expressed gratitude for her experience working with the cast and crew and described the show as a "cultural phenomenon."

Gia, the younger sister of Zendaya’s Rue Bennett, played a pivotal role in the angsty teen drama’s earlier seasons. However, the character saw reduced screen time in season 2, despite powerful confrontational moments with Rue and their mother. HBO representatives declined to comment on Reid’s departure, and her reasons for leaving remain undisclosed.

Filming for Euphoria season 3 is set to begin in early 2025 after delays caused by creator Sam Levinson’s other projects and the recent writers’ and actors’ strikes. The new season, described as a “film noir,” is expected to premiere nearly six years after the show’s debut in 2019. Series regulars Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, and Hunter Schafer are slated to return, with hints of a time jump in the upcoming storyline.
