Firing in Dipalpur Tehsil Kachehri sparks chaos, panic
A violent clash erupted between two groups at a court in Tehsil Kachehri, Dipalpur, causing panic and a stampede among those present.
The incident occurred as a couple arrived to record their statements in a contentious case on Wednesday.
DPO Rashid Hidayat said the dispute involved Azan Mazhar, a resident of Rehman Garden and Chanda Munir, daughter of Munir from Haveli Lakha.
Azan had reportedly married Chanda without her family's consent, leading to her family filing a kidnapping case against him.
On the day of the incident, Azan and Chanda arrived at the court to record their statements.
During the proceedings, Chanda's relatives - identified as Naveed, Saif, Bashir and others - allegedly attempted to forcibly take her away. In response, Azan opened fire, triggering chaos within the court premises.
Lawyers, clients and court staff were terrified as the scene descended into chaos.
Sub-Inspector Hamid Ejaz and the police on court duty swiftly intervened, detaining Azan and seizing the weapon used in the firing.The girl, Chanda, was safely escorted under police supervision.
Police Action and Statements
A case has been registered against Azan, as well as Chanda's relatives Naveed, Bashir, Saif and others involved in the altercation. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
DPO Rashid Hidayat emphasised, "No one is above the law."
