Incident brings total number of citizens killed in robberies involving gunfire this year to 101

A father of nine children was killed for resisting robbery attempt near Scheme 33 Jamali Bridge in Sachal area of Karachi, Express News reported.

This incident brings the total number of citizens killed in robberies involving gunfire this year to 101.

The body of the deceased was transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities, where he was identified as 61-year-old Syed Muhammad Anwar Shah, son of Shahat Shah, a resident of House No. 887, Dastgir Colony, Latifabad, Hyderabad.

Syed Zafar Shah, the brother-in-law of the deceased Syed Muhammad Anwar Shah, recounted the events that led to the fatal shooting.

Zafar Shah shared with the media that he and Anwar Shah were asleep on the upper floor of a workshop near Bando Khan Hotel when the incident occurred.

At approximately 4:20 AM, Anwar Shah noticed suspicious movement outside the workshop and alerted his brother-in-law.

Upon waking, they saw two individuals outside, presumably there to carry out a robbery or theft.

The armed suspects ordered him to come down, but the brother-in-law responded by throwing a stone from the roof, hitting the suspects.

In reaction, the suspects then opened fire, due to which the brother-in-law was hit in the stomach by a bullet and died on the spot.

The armed suspects soon fled the scene after opening fire in a loading rickshaw that they had brought with them.

He further said that the deceased Anwar Shah had come to Karachi from Hyderabad on November 6 for work. The deceased had no enmity with anyone.

The deceased’s family has called on the police and authorities to ensure justice is served and to swiftly apprehend those responsible for the incident.

According to SHO Saschal Aurangzeb Khattak, two shells of a 30-bore pistol were found at the scene, which the police have taken into their possession.

He said that there were no items in the workshop except tools and iron, and neither the deceased nor his relatives were robbed.

He said that it is possible that robbers opened fire, but the police believe that the incident is more a case of personal enmity.

The police are investigating various aspects in this regard.

Previously, following an incident of a police party robbing a house of a trader, a police squad was accused of snatching Rs118 million from a citizen in the limits of Sachal police station.
