Karachi Airport and its surrounding areas have been declared a red zone area amid security concerns.
Entry routes around the airport have been restricted, and only individuals who are arriving at, departing from, or working within the airport will be allowed access to the red zone, Express News reported.
According to details, security measures have been further tightened in Karachi following a suicide attack on a convoy of Chinese engineers near the airport and a shooting incident involving two luxury vehicles on Shara-e-Faisal.
Given these threats, the airport and its adjoining areas have been designated as a red zone.
According to SSP Malir, Kashif Aftab Abbasi, police checkpoints have been set up at five key locations near the airport: Stargate, CAA Club, Madam Bridge, Model Colony Junction, and the Rangers’ Checkpoint in the Funeral Area, with police personnel stationed round the clock. Officers at these checkpoints will inspect every suspicious person and vehicle to prevent any unusual activity.
"Police personnel will be on duty 24/7 at these checkpoints, scrutinising all suspicious persons and vehicles to deter any unusual activity," Abbasi stated, underscoring the department's commitment to public safety.
Travellers heading to Karachi airport are advised to arrive well in advance to complete security checks smoothly and avoid delays. Abbasi urged all passengers to carry both their ticket and national ID for verification before entering the red zone.
He advised residents of M-9 Motorway, Malir Cantonment, Memon Goth, Model Colony, and other nearby areas to use Main Shahrah-e-Faisal and Malir Halt instead of passing through the Red Zone when traveling towards the city.
Passengers coming from Drigh Road and heading towards Malir Cantonment or Model Colony are also requested to use Malir Halt for their journey instead of using Stargate or CAA Club Road.
"Our top priority remains passenger safety and secure travel," said Abbasi, highlighting that the Malir District Police are dedicated to maintaining peace and security.
He added that police assistance is available around the clock to support the public in navigating the new restrictions and ensuring safe transit.
