KARACHI:

Unidentified armed men opened fire and lobbed a hand grenade at a restaurant located near Frontier Morr in Orangi Town on Saturday morning. Luckily, no casualties were reported because the grenade did not explode and the restaurant was closed.

As per details, four armed men, riding two motorcycles, opened fire on the MMF restaurant at around 4am. After firing, the suspects hurled the grenade at the restaurant and fled the scene. The restaurant owner, Momin Shah, and his family, who live on the upper floor of the building housing the eatery, were awakened by the gunshots.

The family immediately reported the incident to police, who reached the scene and called in the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and the Crime Scene Unit for assistance. The BDS defused the grenade.

While speaking to the media, Momin Shah said that the restaurant closes by midnight, and the attack took place well after business hours. He recalled that in 2022, he had received an 'extortion slip' and filed a complaint at the Pirabad police station. One suspect, a neighbour, was arrested, spent a year in jail, and was later released. Since then, Shah has not received any further threats.
