Hania Aamir refuses to filter her flaws

Star talks shooting with pimples and scars

Social media may be brimming with images of unattainable beauty, but A-lister Hania Aamir has no interest in promoting any of it. The star may be one of the most talked about names in television after the success of the hit series Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, but that does not mean she fears spots or blemishes on her skin slipping through the camera lens. Indeed, speaking in an interview with digital creator Faridoon Shahryar, Hania openly endorsed embracing one's superficial flaws on screen.

Candidly recounting her difficulties with acne in 2019, Hania talked about how easy it is to cover up skin blemishes on television. There came a point, however, when the star became uneasy about hiding her pimples and putting up a façade. "When you're on screen, nobody finds out," she remarked. "There's makeup, the camera, and someone puts a filter and doesn't take closeups, but I started feeling like I was living a lie. Like I was lying to the people who were following me."

The 16.3 million followers on Hania's Instagram account will know that she is not averse to sharing makeup-free photos. Although the actor had fewer followers to her name in 2019, she recognised the wealth of her influence and the power of her actions online.

"One day I took a picture of my skin and I posted it and I was like, you know what, this is what I'm going through and this is nothing to be ashamed of," she continued. "I decided that I would not stay sad if my skin broke out and neither would I let anyone else feel the same way about themselves."

True to her word, Hania revealed to audiences that she had taken pains to keep her true face on camera when filming Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum. "You'll notice that if I had a mark on my face, it has not been covered up," she pointed out. "I am stubborn about that. I've been through a bad phase and I made a pact: unless something on my face could distract viewers from the scene or the dialogue, I wouldn't cover it up."

Understanding the weight of her responsibility as a leading figure in showbiz and on social media, Hania added, "I don't want girls to think that until they are 'perfect looking' they cannot work in this field. That's also why in most of my videos, I don't wear makeup."

Hania's stance on embracing outward flaws marks a refreshing shift, promoting self-confidence in a world wooed by perfection on social media.
