Shrimp farming internship launched

Selected applicants to be paid stipend for six months, says CM

Launching the Aqua Shrimp Farming Internship Programme in Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said practical training will be given to youth with degrees in fisheries, aquaculture and zoology.

The interns will also get a monthly stipend of Rs50,000 for six months.

Zoologists will be trained at a shrimp farm of the fisheries department in Muzaffargarh. Youngsters can apply for the internships online.

The chef minister said shrimp farmers should benefit from a worldwide demand. "More than $1 billion in foreign exchange can be earned through shrimp farming 100,000 acres," she added.

"Barren and deserted land of South Punjab will be made usable by shrimp farming. To encourage shrimp farming, farmers and investors will be given land, concessions and necessary equipment on lease."

The chief minister said 10,000 to 20,000 people could get employment opportunities with the promotion of shrimp farming. "Youth can gain self-employment and financial independence through shrimp farming."

Meanwhile, CM Maryam Nawaz said in her message on World Diabetes Day that the government had decided to launch a Chief Minister Insulin Programme across the province.

The Insulin for All pilot project will be started in three districts, including Lahore.

Under the project, Children with Type-1 diabetes will be provided free insulin at home.

Cards will be issued to ensure the supply of insulin to the ailing children. A government-approved company will supply insulin to the patients as per cold chain and other standard operating procedures (SOPs). The patients will be able to apply through an app or helpline.
