R&B singer Kehlani has publicly responded to allegations from her ex-partner, guitarist Javaughn Young-White, who is seeking full custody of their daughter, Adeya.
Young-White’s recent legal filings claim that Kehlani, 29, is affiliated with a “cult” and has allowed members of this group to care for their five-year-old daughter in ways he describes as concerning. The filing, which has circulated online, has drawn attention due to the nature of Young-White’s allegations, which suggest that Adeya’s well-being may be compromised.
Young-White’s claims include assertions that Kehlani entrusts Adeya to group members while on tour and that some members participate in what he considers inappropriate practices with their daughter. He reportedly claims, “Adeya sleeps in the bed with, and is given baths by random adult members of the cult,” further alleging that some of these adults were “under the influence of psychedelic drugs” during these interactions.
Young-White has expressed frustration over his concerns being dismissed by Kehlani, saying, “Instead of addressing my feelings, she resorts to disparaging me online to her millions of social media followers.”
In a statement shared on Instagram, Kehlani rejected the accusations, clarifying her stance on the situation. “I strongly deny any claims that I have put my child in harm’s way,” she wrote, stating that she has never left her daughter “alone with anyone deemed dangerous or unsafe.”
Kehlani also addressed accusations linking her to a cult leader, known as Neto, who allegedly performed private religious ceremonies with Adeya. Young-White has voiced concerns that these ceremonies might expose their daughter to potential harm, claiming that Neto has “numerous accusations of committing sexual assault against women and young girls.”
Kehlani, however, dismissed the cult accusations as “monstrous” and urged her followers to understand her position. She emphasized her commitment to Adeya’s safety, describing the allegations as the most “heartbreaking thing” she had encountered. "To have those screenshots doctored, with the rest of the messages left out, to make me seem like I consider myself to be in an inappropriate relationship with my DAUGHTER is heartbreaking,” she expressed, noting that her intention is to maintain her daughter’s best interests throughout the ongoing custody dispute.
In a recent Instagram statement, Young-White partially retracted claims against Neto, acknowledging that some of his previous remarks were “careless” and noting that Adeya is no longer involved with Neto’s community. However, he remains firm in his concerns about the “unconventional” environment Kehlani allegedly maintains for their child. He stated, “I have been prevented from seeing Adeya multiple times as per orders from the cult.”
Kehlani and Young-White, who briefly dated before Adeya’s birth in 2019, had co-parented privately until August 2024, when Young-White filed for full custody. He claims that Adeya was born through a home birth associated with Kehlani’s religious beliefs and has accused Kehlani of omitting his name from the birth certificate and withholding Adeya’s social security number.
As the legal dispute unfolds, Kehlani has urged her audience to withhold judgment until more details are resolved in court. "The rest of these monstrous allegations are being addressed in court," she wrote, reinforcing her position as the custody case continues.
