Woman from Karachi funds Umrah with stolen gold

Shehnaz’s husband was initially detained and disclosed that his wife was behind the theft of 20 tola gold.

A woman from Karachi’s Lyari has been arrested for allegedly stealing 20 tola of gold from a neighbouring home and using part of the proceeds to fund an Umrah pilgrimage.

Police in the Baghdadi area registered the case on October 27 and apprehended the accused, identified as Shehnaz, following a tip-off.

According to a police spokesperson, Shehnaz’s husband, Imran, was initially detained and disclosed that his wife was behind the gold theft.

Following her arrest, authorities recovered three tola of gold jewellery and approximately Rs1.5 million in cash from Shehnaz’s possession.

“She stole the jewellery while the neighbours were away, sold 17 tola, and used the money to travel for Umrah,” stated a police official.

The police are conducting further investigations to recover additional stolen items and apprehend any accomplices involved in the crime.

Baghdadi Police have said that ongoing raids are being conducted in connection with the case, aiming to secure full recovery of the stolen jewellery.
