Nicole Kidman, renowned for her role in Babygirl and her contributions as a producer, recently expressed her desire to work with famed director Martin Scorsese, provided he leads a female-centered project.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Kidman noted her admiration for Scorsese but subtly pointed out his focus on male-dominated narratives in films like Raging Bull and Goodfellas. Though Scorsese has collaborated with actresses such as Sharon Stone and Ellen Burstyn, whose role in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore won her an Oscar, Kidman believes there’s room for stories that more centrally feature women.
Kidman also mentioned other directors she hopes to work with, including Kathryn Bigelow and Paul Thomas Anderson, and emphasized her commitment to championing emerging female talent in Hollywood.
Reflecting on her approach to selecting roles, Kidman shared that she often goes with instinct, looking for partnerships that allow creative freedom. “I’m trying to support women at all different stages of their careers,” Kidman added, emphasizing the importance of uplifting other women in a field that still has room for improvement.
