Mariah Carey is set to be questioned under oath in January as part of a lawsuit filed by her brother, Morgan Carey, who claims she made defamatory statements about him in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey.

The deposition, scheduled for January 17, will require Carey, 55, to appear in person for a recorded session where she’ll address allegations that she falsely depicted her brother as violent, involved in drug dealing during the 1980s, and as having served prison time.

Morgan Carey filed the defamation suit in 2021, accusing Mariah of damaging his reputation with what he calls untruths. Among the contested statements is Mariah’s portrayal of her brother as someone from whom she and her mother needed protection, rather than a supportive sibling.

In her memoir, Mariah Carey referred to Morgan as her “ex-brother,” recalling a strained relationship. This high-profile deposition marks the latest development in a legal battle that began three years ago, as Morgan seeks accountability over what he calls damaging fabrications in her bestselling book.
