Lahore hosts Friendship International Theatre Festival, showing solidarity with Palestinians

Artists from several countries, join the Friendship International Festival, arrival of Indian director also expected.

The Friendship International Theatre Festival has kicked off in Lahore with a grand opening at Alhamra Hall.

On the first day, a tableau was presented to express solidarity with the Palestinians, which moved the audience, earning praise for the performers, reported by Express News.

During the colorful event at Alhamra, Executive Director Shahid Nadeem and renowned actress Suheera Nadeem lit the lamps, officially starting the ceremony.

The event began with the national anthem, followed by the launch of Ajoka Theatre's special song. Suheera Nadeem shared her reflections on Ajoka's journey, recalling memorable moments from the past.

The performance by Wahab Shah and his group captivated the audience. It showcased Sufi traditions and beautifully presented the diverse cultures of Pakistan’s four provinces.

In solidarity with the Palestinian people, they paid an emotional tribute, which was widely appreciated by the audience.

According to the festival’s administration, the event will continue from November 9 to 17 at Alhamra Arts Council in Lahore, with theatre groups from 11 countries participating.

Executive Director Shahid Nadeem revealed that the festival is being organized with the support of the Lahore Arts Council and the Punjab government.

Theatre groups from India, the United States, Switzerland, Turkey, Nepal, and other countries have already arrived in Lahore. The renowned Indian director, Kewal Dhaliwal, and his Swiss group are expected soon. The famous American theatre group "Limte" will also participate.

A highlight of the event was Ajoka Theatre’s renowned drama "Dara," which was specially presented for the opening ceremony.

The play added a fresh perspective to Ajoka's traditional style and entertained the audience. According to the administration, this festival is a significant step in promoting art and culture, providing a platform for artists from Pakistan and around the world to share experiences and foster cultural harmony.
