Faced with demolition of their shops, traders find support

KARACHI:

A Pakistan Sunni Tehreek (PST) delegation on Thursday visited a camp set up by shopkeepers in New Karachi to protest the official orders for the demolition of their shops.

The delegation - comprising Shehbaz Qadri, General Secretary of PST Karachi Division, and Imran Qadri, Information Secretary - assured the affected shopkeepers that the party stands with "every victim of injustice." The PST's goal is to become voice of the voiceless in the parliament, they said while criticising the Sindh government and the city mayor for reneging on their promises to the affected shopkeepers.

"The economic crisis in the country is dire, with many citizens driven to despair due to inflation and unemployment. If the government goes ahead with demolishing these shops without offering an alternative, thousands of families will be left destitute," Qadri said.

The PST leaders also called for the formation of a coordination committee between the Sindh government and the city administration to engage with shopkeepers and gather their data.
