Paying Rs11 billion dues and handing over the water supply and filtration infrastructure was the bottom line of Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation deal thrown at Pakistan Steel Mills delegation seeking resumption of water supply.
KWSC has turned off the tap for over a million people living in housing colonies of PSM and adjoining areas.
A high-level delegation of Pakistan Steel Mill (PSM) met Mayor Murtaza Wahab at the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (/KWSC) Chairman Secretariat, Karsaz.
During the meeting, both the parties had a detailed discussion regarding water supply in the residential area of PSM, Steel Town, Gulshan-e-Hadeed Phase 1, 2 and Extension Phase 3.
KWSC officers told PSM admin to surrender it's water channel and filter plants if it wants water.
They said that if PSM hands over its complete system including the Zero Point canal and filter plant to KWSC the corporation will ensure water supply to the mill's residential areas and the adjacent localities .
In addition to this, PSM should pay Rs11 billion of its arrears to KWSC as soon as possible as the Corporation has to pay dues to its retired employees.
In this regard, PSM officials said that their management will inform its board about its position to seek approval. Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, KWSC COO Engineer Asadullah Khan, and others local body representatives were present in the meeting. CEO Pakistan Steel Mill Asad Islam attended the meeting through video link.
