The Estate Office, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Housing and Works, has devised a new strategy to evict 2,710 retired employees from the government houses and flats of the federal residential colonies in Karachi.
A letter sent to the Accountant General Pakistan Revenues (AGPR) requests them to immediately stop the monthly pensions of these retired employees. It was further requested that outstanding rent amounts be deducted from their pensions and that the pensions remain suspended until these retired employees vacate the government houses.
There has been unrest in the federal employees' colonies after the dispatch of this letter and the local unions hint at protests against the Estate Office. An appeal has been made to the Prime Minister and Federal Minister for Housing to take immediate notice of the situation.
