Imran Khan’s lawyer Intezar Panjutha returns home after almost four weeks
Islamabad police have successfully recovered Imran Khan’s focal person and lawyer, Intezar Hussain Panjutha, after he was dramatically rescued from Hassan Abdal. Following his recovery, he was transported to the federal capital for questioning and subsequently allowed to return home, reported Express News on Sunday.
According to police reports, Panjutha was taken into protective custody from Attock and moved to Islamabad, where his statement was recorded under section 161 at the Kohsar police station.
Authorities confirmed that he left the police station with his brother, Zaeem Panjutha, and headed home. A detailed report regarding his recovery will be presented to the Islamabad High Court on Monday.
Panjutha had gone missing on October 8, prompting a petition for his recovery to be filed with the Islamabad High Court, which has been hearing the case under the leadership of Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court.
During the hearing on November 1, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan assured the court that Panjutha would be recovered within 24 hours. The police revealed that a suspicious vehicle was stopped in the jurisdiction of the Hassan Abdal police station late Saturday and early Sunday.
Upon stopping, the occupants fled, prompting a police chase. When pursued, the suspects opened fire, but ultimately abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. After searching the vehicle, police found Panjutha blindfolded with his hands bound behind his back and his legs tied.
Panjutha reported that his captors spoke Pashto and he was subjected to violence during his captivity. He revealed that they had been driving him around for four hours and had demanded a ransom of Rs20 million.
DPO Attock, Sardar Ghiyas Gul, informed Express News that efforts are underway to arrest the suspects based on the information provided by Panjutha. He added that since the primary case of abduction is registered in Islamabad, the police team from the city, led by the City SP, will continue further investigations.
