Road Safety Authority to be set up

Move aimed at standardising highway quality

The provincial cabinet has approved proposals to set up a Punjab Road Safety Authority (PSRA) and purchase of signal jammer vehicles for protocol duties.

The PRSA will take measures for ensuring standardisation of roads and establish standard vehicle testing laboratories.

A motor transport agency will also be established under the supervision of the PRSA. The cabinet members were informed during a meeting that ratio of fatalities in traffic accidents in Punjab was 10 per cent.

The provincial transport minister will head the 14-member special committee of the PRSA. The cabinet also approved replacement of old jammer cars deployed for security duty.

Presiding over the meeting, the chief minister directed the authorities concerned to rehabilitate Gurdwaras and other religious places of minorities across Punjab.

An approval to enhance the grant of Artist Khidmat Cards for the actors was approved and a decision was made in principal to enhance the grant. The CM also sought a comprehensive plan for the well- being of actors. It was decided to hand over the authority of the Lahore Arts Council Endowment Fund Board to the information minister.

Approval to the proposed Punjab Government Advertisement Policy 2024 was also granted. The chief minister issued directives to formulate a foolproof system to ensure timely payment of the arrears of media. An approval to resolve issues of sewerage systems of various cities was granted and the CM sought a plan in this regard.

The chief minister awarded certificate of merit and two-month honourary salary to five deputy commissioners on showing excellent performance on KPIs. The DC of Bahawalnagar stood first with respect to the Key Performance Indicators.

Construction of embankments to prevent river erosion was approved. Conditional approval was granted for allotment of land for the treatment of eye cancer and other diseases.

Approval of a Rs20 million grant-in-aid for the Pakistan Blind Cricket Council was granted. The cabinet also increased the reward for arresting most wanted and dangerous criminals.

It approved a grant of Rs210 million for the Chief Minister Punjab Climate Leadership Development Internship Programme.

Approval was given to include two development schemes of Lahore district in the Annual Development Programme and to amend the Punjab Local Government (Accounts) Rules 2017. Re-appointment of chief executive officer of the Quaid-i-Azam Solar Power Limited was also approved.

Funds were approved for the improvement of sewerage and rainwater drainage systems across Punjab. Supplementary grant was sanctioned for making payments to the Gujranwala Waste Management Company. Reconstitution of the Board of Directors of the Gujrat Waste Management Company and reconstruction and rehabilitation of Haveli Bakshi Ram Singh in Gujar Khan was approved.
