QUETTA:

Two coal miners died and another was rescued after being trapped for eight hours in a mine in Balochistan's Duki district.

Poisonous gas filled the mine at a depth of 1,400 feet, trapping three miners deep underground. Emergency response teams worked tirelessly to retrieve the miners, but unfortunately, only one miner was brought out alive, while the bodies of two others were recovered from the debris.

The trapped miners, identified as Habibullah and Saifullah, encountered severe conditions due to the gas buildup, which likely contributed to their tragic deaths.

Rescuers, equipped with specialised equipment, made exhaustive efforts to clear the mine and reach the workers, but the high concentration of toxic gas hindered their progress. After hours of continuous effort, the rescue teams managed to pull out one miner alive, while the deceased were shifted to the hospital for further procedures.

The miners, all from Afghanistan, were part of the workforce operating in Duki's coal mines, an area notorious for its hazardous conditions. This incident marks yet another fatal accident in the region, underscoring persistent safety concerns in Balochistan's mining sector.
