Retired Boeing 737 transported by road from Karachi to Hyderabad for training

For the first time in Pakistan’s history, a retired Boeing 737 was transported by road on Wednesday, creating an unusual spectacle as it journeyed from Karachi to Hyderabad. 

The 154-kilometer trip took roughly two and a half hours, with the 110-foot-long, 40-ton aircraft carefully moved on a custom truck and trailer.

The sight reminded many of a similar transport of Boeing 777s across Saudi Arabia’s deserts last September. 

Prior to its move, the jet’s wings and tail were removed, to be transported separately, according to the supervisor of the operation.

Once reassembled at the Civil Aviation Training Institute in Hyderabad, the aircraft will be used to train airport firefighters.

While traffic on the Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway remained open, the convoy caused congestion along the way.
