1,486 WhatsApp accounts hacked, 549 restored

ISLAMABAD:

As many as 1,486 WhatsApp accounts have been hacked in the country while 549 accounts restored, and 817 complaints are in the verification process.

It was told by Interior Ministry while answering a query in the Senate session held on Tuesday. The ministry told the upper house that FIA Cyber Crime Wing received 1,426 complaints of WhatsApp account hacking from July 1 till date.

The Cyber Crime Wing has recovered 549 accounts while it is processing 877 complaints. Besides, it has converted 20 pending complaints into formal inquiry and has yet to receive reply from WhatsApp on the record of 40 pending complaints.

During the Senate session, the house approved further amendment in Seed Act 1976 with a majority vote while it forwarded Legal Assistance and Justice Authority Amendment Bill 2024 to the relevant standing committee.

Expressing his views, Leader of the Opposition in Senate Shibli Faraz said amendment in any act is not wrong but the process of amendment must be correct.
