The rainfall in Balakot and snowfall in the upper Kaghan Valley has signalled the onset of the winter season in the region.
The Babusar-Naran Highway has been closed to all kinds of traffic due to over two feet of snow on Babusar Top. Authorities have advised the tourists and travellers to use the Karakoram Highway for their journeys.
Rain persisted throughout the day in Balakot, while various areas in Kaghan Valley, including Lake Lolosar, Saiful Malook, Batakundi, and Jalkhad, received up to 10 inches of snow. This has officially marked the start of winter in the area.
Light snowfall in Naran and its surroundings has brought chilly winds, reinforcing the seasonal shift. Authorities expect the current spell of rain and snow to continue into today, further impacting travel conditions.
Local officials have urged residents and visitors to take precautions, as the weather can lead to slippery roads and potential disruptions.
Emergency services are on standby to assist those affected by the severe weather and residents are advised to stock up on essential supplies as conditions may worsen in the coming days.
