Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris faces claims that she allegedly paid off the popular social media page The Shade Room to gain support among Black voters.
Earlier this month, Vice President Harris appeared in an interview on The Shade Room as part of her campaign’s efforts to connect with young Black voters.
The accusations were posted by the social media account DramaAlert, owned by YouTuber Keemstar.
DramaAlert alleged on X (formerly Twitter) that Harris was “caught paying off” The Shade Room, but no evidence of the supposed payoff or “leak” was provided.
This lack of proof prompted skepticism from users who questioned the allegations.
Founded in 2014 by Angelica Nwandu, The Shade Room has grown into a prominent Instagram-based platform focused on celebrity news and trending topics within the African American community.
Harris’ choice to appear on non-traditional media like The Shade Room has drawn mixed reactions, but her campaign emphasizes it as a strategic move to broaden her outreach in the 2024 race against Donald Trump.
