Former PCB chairman and commentator Ramiz Raja has addressed the backlash following his controversial comments towards Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood. His remarks during Pakistan vs England post-match broadcast were criticized on social media, with many perceiving his tone as disrespectful.
In a recent video, Ramiz clarified his intentions, stating, "I never meant to undermine Shan Masood. Questioning players is my right, and my goal is to contribute to Pakistan's success."
He emphasized that those who criticized him may not have viewed the entire interview, explaining, "After six consecutive losses, I asked Shan how he maintained patience through the setbacks. Shan is like a son to me; we often discuss his batting."
Ramiz also highlighted Shan's struggle with playing shots towards the leg side, which he felt was a valid point of discussion.
"After one victory, we often forget that there's a long journey ahead. I never suggested removing Shan as captain after the team lost six Test matches," he added.
He dismissed the social media chatter, suggesting that some criticisms are politically motivated and expressing concern that discussions about Pakistan cricket are too often confined to social media.
The backlash followed Pakistan's significant victory over England, where they clinched the Test series 2-1 with a remarkable nine-wicket win in the deciding match. This victory marked Pakistan's first home Test series win in nearly three and a half years, their last triumph coming against South Africa in January 2021.
Despite this achievement, Ramiz's remarks overshadowed the celebration, with many users on social media expressing their discontent over his treatment of Shan, arguing that public criticism of the national team captain was inappropriate. Moreover, according to sources, PCB has formally communicated its reservations through a letter to the broadcasters.
