Chrissy Metz shares how ‘This Is Us’ fame changed how people treat her on flights and beyond

Chrissy Metz opens up about how This Is Us fame shifted public perception

Chrissy Metz, known for her role as Kate Pearson on NBC’s This Is Us, recently discussed how her fame from the show has noticeably changed people’s behavior toward her, particularly while traveling. In an interview on The Jamie Kern Lima Show, Metz reflected on this shift, noting that people’s judgment shifted from her physical appearance to her celebrity status. “Before the show, I could go on an airplane, and someone could not want to sit next to me if they were too squished,” she said, explaining that now people are more willing to sit beside her simply because of her fame. “It’s not like people don’t care about me, but they care about who they think I am,” Metz added.

Metz admitted that while the increased attention is sometimes flattering, it can also raise concerns about the intentions of new people in her life. She shared how fame has led her to question people’s motives, especially in relationships. “Even in relationships, it’s like, ‘Why does a man want to be with me?’” she said, adding that her closest friends are those who knew her before her career took off. Metz said she strives to balance her feelings about public perception, stating, “I can’t attach to the good or the bad” to maintain her own sense of self-worth.

Metz’s role on This Is Us, which ran from 2016 to 2022, earned her Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and positioned her as a relatable figure for many. The show’s impact, combined with her personal reflections, continues to resonate with fans and highlights the complexities of fame and public image.
