Horner suggests Checo’s Red Bull seat under review after disappointing home GP performance

Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing’s team principal, has hinted at potential changes regarding Sergio Perez's future after a challenging performance at the Mexican Grand Prix. Perez struggled in front of his home crowd, failing to advance past Q1 on Saturday and finishing at the back of the pack on race day, compounded by significant car damage. "Formula 1 is a results-based business," Horner remarked, adding, "As a team, we need to have both cars scoring points. That's the nature of Formula 1."

Perez’s inconsistent results have impacted Red Bull’s position in the Constructors' Championship, where they now sit third. Horner emphasized the team’s support for Perez, mentioning efforts to help him regain form, but acknowledged the limits of their support. "We’ve done everything that we can to support Checo… There comes a point in time that you can only do so much," he explained. With four races remaining, Horner expressed urgency for Perez to deliver consistent results, noting, "Difficult decisions have to be made."

Amid speculation, young Red Bull-backed drivers Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda have been named as potential successors. However, Horner also pointed out that these drivers struggled in Mexico, showing how quickly fortunes can shift in the sport. As Perez prepares for the next race in Brazil, he faces mounting pressure to solidify his position amid intensifying competition for seats at Red Bull.
