CJP Yahya Afridi chairs in-camera full court session

Eight benches will hear cases starting today, with various judges assigned to each bench.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi has commenced an in-camera full court session, which includes participation from the Supreme Court judges.

The proceedings are being held privately, keeping discussions confidential.

Following Chief Justice Afridi's oath, the Registrar of the Supreme Court has released the judges’ roster, which covers the period from October 28 to November 1.

This roster, issued under the Practice and Procedure Act, outlines the schedule for hearing cases, Express News reported.

According to the roster, eight benches will convene to hear cases starting today. Bench number one comprises Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal, while bench two includes Justices Muneeb Akhtar and Athar Minallah.

Further, bench three will consist of Justices Aminuddin Khan and Irfan Saadat Khan. Bench four includes Justices Jamal Mandokhel, Musrat Hilali, and Malik Shahzad. Bench five is made up of Justices Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Hassan Azhar Rizvi, while bench six consists of Justices Ayesha A. Malik and Aqeel Abbasi.

Lastly, bench seven includes Justices Shahid Waheed and Naeem Akhtar Afghan, with bench eight comprising Justices Sardar Tariq Masood and Mazhar Alam Khan.

CJP Yahya Afridi took his first administrative step, last week, by reconstituting the committee established under the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act 2023.

CJP Yahya will comprise Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Munib Akhtar as its members.

Earlier today, Justice Yahya Afridi took the oath as the new Chief Justice of Pakistan.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr (President's house), where President Asif Ali Zardari administered the oath to Justice Yahya Afridi as Chief Justice of Pakistan.
