SC to take up 968 cases in first week under CJ Afridi

Chief Justice Afridi had called the full court immediately after taking oath of office on Saturday.

The Supreme Court would hear nearly 1,000 cases this week – the first under the news chief justice, Yahya Afirdi, according to the cause list issued by the apex court, while a full court meeting is also scheduled to take place on Monday (today).

All available judges of the Supreme Court will attend the full court, barring Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, who has proceeded to Saudi Arabia to perform Umran. Chief Justice Yahya Afridi will preside over the full court.

The full court meeting is scheduled at 1pm in the Supreme Court in which important administrative decisions are expected. Judicial reforms will also be considered in the meeting, according to sources. Chief Justice Afridi had called the full court immediately after taking oath of office on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court issue the cause list for the judicial week from October 28 to November 1, during which 968 cases had been scheduled for hearing by eight regular benches. The first bench consists of Chief Justice Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan, which would hear 140 cases in courtroom No 1.

The second bench, consisting of Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Athar Manullah, was scheduled take up 140 cases; the third bench, consisting of Justice Aminuddin Khan and Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, would hear another 140 cases, according to the cause list.

The fourth bench, comprising Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Justice Musrat Hilali and Justice Shahzad Ahmed Khan, would take up 58 cases, the fifth bench consisting of Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi would hear 140 cases.
