Two men were killed when a fire swept through a gas cylinder shop in Federal B Area late on Saturday night.

Rescuers and local residents said that the fire broke out in the LPG shop set up in Sagheer Centre, a residential-cum-commercial building in Block 16 of Federal B Area.

Witnesses said that the blaze spread quickly and the gas cylinders inside the shop started exploding.

The sound of explosions created panic among people at a restaurant located opposite the LPG shop. The restaurant staff rushed to save their belongings fearing the exploding cylinders could damage them.

The panic triggered a massive traffic jam on the adjacent Rashid Minhas Road because curious onlookers and rescuers gathered to find out what had happened.

KMC Fire Brigade and Rescue 1122 personnel reached the spot and put out the blaze after an hourslong effort.

During the subsequent search of the shop, bodies of two men were recovered which were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities and identification.
