Around 111 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals on Sunday. The number of dengue patients under treatment in allied hospitals has increased to 260, intensifying concerns within the health department.
Dengue cases have surged out of control in Rawalpindi, despite four daily meetings by the district administration and health department. Overwhelmed health officials are now appealing to citizens to pray for rain as the mosquito-borne virus continues to spread. Dengue cases in Rawalpindi have risen by an average of 100 new patients each day, with a current total of 4,191 cases.
Out of 260 patients, 86 patients are being treated in Benazir Bhutto General Hospital, 42 in District Headquarters Hospital, 26 in Fuji Foundation Hospital, 56 in Holy Family Hospital and 50 patients are being treated in different private hospitals.
In Rawalpindi district, in the last 24 hours, 49 dengue patients were reported from Potohar Town, 17 from Municipal Corporation limits, while 25 from Rawalpindi Cantonment, six from Chaklala Cantt, one each from Taxila and Gujar Khan, eight from Potohar Rural and three dengue patients reported from Kallar Syedan.
According to health department sources, 13 patients suffering from dengue virus lost their lives this year. During the current year, a total of 5,011 FIRs were registered against the citizens for violation of SOPs, while 1,787 buildings were sealed and 3,207 challan were issued for dengue larvae, for which over Rs21 million of fine has also been imposed.
