ISLAMABAD:

PTI MNA Zain Qureshi on Saturday announced his resignation as party's deputy parliamentary leader, citing a recent show-cause notice from the party.

The show-cause notice stemmed from a recent vote on the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which PTI chose to boycott. The former ruling party issued these notices to six members for supporting the amendment.

Zain, son of PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, refuted claims that he was present in parliament during the passage of the amendment. He maintained that following his father's instructions, he had gone into hiding at the time.

He made his resignation public on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, explaining that he had responded to the party's notice.

"Based on my belief for a free and transparent inquiry and in recognition of the sentiment of our party supporters, I am resigning from my role as deputy parliamentary leader. I do so until and unless I have the confidence and trust of my party and our founding chairman, Imran Khan," he stated on X.

Zain added that in the "interest of public transparency for all PTI supporters", he had formally replied to his show-cause notice and provided a comprehensive account. He affirmed his continued commitment to the PTI, its founder, and his father, stating, "I was, am, and will remain loyal to my party, my leader, and my father."
