Left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir will not be included in Pakistan’s ODI squad for the upcoming white-ball series against Australia later in November, credible sources confirmed.
Speculations around Amir’s return to the 50-over format had intensified, with media outlets suggesting that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had reached out to the 32-year-old pacer to discuss his availability.
However, it is now confirmed that Amir will not join Pakistan’s pace lineup for the ODIs.
In his place, Pakistan is expected to field a formidable bowling attack featuring Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Mohammad Hasnain.
Amir, who last appeared in an ODI for Pakistan in 2019 against Sri Lanka, has focused primarily on T20 leagues worldwide. His recent return to the national team for the T20 World Cup had led to speculation about his involvement in high-profile series, including this one.
Amir’s record against Australia is noteworthy, with 58 wickets across formats, 26 of those coming in Australian conditions alone.
Despite his absence from the ODI squad, sources hint that Amir may still be considered for the T20I series following the ODIs.
Pakistan’s tour of Australia kicks off with a three-match ODI series starting November 4, followed by a T20I series beginning November 14. The official squad announcement is anticipated in the coming days.
ODI series schedule:
- 4 November: MCG, Melbourne (D/N)
- 8 November: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide (D/N)
- 10 November: Perth Stadium, Perth (D/N)
T20I series schedule:
- 14 November: The Gabba, Brisbane (N)
- 16 November: SCG, Sydney (N)
- 18 November: Bellerive Oval, Hobart (N)
