Imran Khan's sisters released on bail from Jhelum Jail

Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan were arrested on October 4 in connection with PTI-led protest at D-Chowk

Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, sisters of PTI founder Imran Khan, were released from Jhelum Jail on bail on Friday and headed to Islamabad, sources confirmed.

Both women were granted bail by an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad, which had approved their requests against surety bonds of Rs20,000 each.

The sisters were arrested on October 4 in connection with a case registered at Kohsar Police Station amid a PTI-led protest at D-Chowk, Islamabad. Their detention came as supporters gathered in the area following PTI’s announcement of the planned demonstration.

The women’s bail was granted earlier this week by Judge Abul Hasanat Zulqarnain, marking the end of their physical remand. Sources noted that neither central PTI leaders nor party officials were present at Jhelum Jail upon their release.

Aleema and Uzma had initially been presented in court after a one-day remand. At the time, PTI’s lawyer, Niazullah Niazi, argued the legality of their detention, contending that the sisters were only presented in court two days after their arrest, thus rendering the detention “unlawful.”
