LAHORE:

Over 70 officials from local governments across the province attended a workshop organised by the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC) in collaboration with German development agency GIZ on the Punjab Right to Information Act 2013.

Addressing the participants, Justice (retd) Ali Akbar Qureshi highlighted that access to information is a fundamental right enshrined in Article 19-A of the Constitution.

He stressed that while legislation for the purpose is in place, its effective implementation remains critical.

Public information officers have the responsibility to ensure that citizens receive timely access to the information they seek, he said.

He also drew attention to Islamic teachings emphasizing accountability and the proactive dissemination of information, urging public servants to uphold their duties with integrity and fairness.

PMDFC Chairman Parvez Iqbal noted that transparency and accountability are vital to promoting ethical governance and improving public service delivery.
