In a candid interview on the From the Blocks podcast with Neal Brennan, Marlon Wayans discussed the challenges he faced when his child, Kai, began the process of transitioning. The White Chicks star admitted that he initially struggled to accept the situation, even going as far as attempting hypnosis to stop the transition. “I tried to hypnotize that bih,” Wayans joked, reflecting on his early resistance. However, Wayans expressed regret over his actions, admitting that he felt embarrassed after realizing that trying to control his child’s life wasn’t the right approach.

"This was happening when they were 22, 23, and for me…you’re trying to hold on, and you want normalcy... grandchildren…but yo, it’s not on me," he said, revealing the emotional difficulties he faced as a parent. Despite these struggles, Wayans shared that he eventually came to a place of acceptance and unconditional love, saying, "It’s their life; they should be happy. I’m gonna love my child. Period."

Wayans also explained that humor helped him navigate the transition, noting the balance between being a father and a comedian. “I’m a father first, I’m a comedian second, and those two clash,” he joked. While Wayans acknowledged the emotional challenges, he made it clear that his child’s happiness and well-being were most important.
