In response to the tragic death of former One Direction singer Liam Payne, fans have launched a petition calling for the introduction of "Liam's Law" to safeguard the mental health of entertainment industry professionals. The petition on Change.org, initiated by a user named Day KV, has garnered over 24,000 signatures.
It highlights the pressures of fame and the negative impact on artists' mental health, urging for regular mental health check-ups, rest periods, and the presence of mental health professionals on-set.
The petition stresses that "stress, anxiety, depression, substance misuse, and even suicide are alarmingly high" among performers, according to research. It calls for the entertainment industry to be held accountable for ensuring the well-being of its artists, particularly in light of Payne's passing. The document proposes mental health interventions to prevent tragedies and "ensure a healthier, safer working environment for artists."
A second petition, titled "Help Protect People in the Public Eye," further advocates for tougher penalties for stalking, privacy breaches, and online harassment, emphasizing the need for better safeguarding measures.
