The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a likely decrease in dengue fever cases by November, citing current meteorological conditions and future atmospheric trends.

However, officials have warned that the next two weeks will remain critical, as ongoing atmospheric factors continue to favour the spread of the virus.

In light of this, the PMD has urged national health agencies and dengue control centres to implement immediate preventative measures to mitigate the impact of the disease.

Health experts have reiterated the importance of taking precautions, especially to prevent mosquito breeding during this crucial period. The PMD emphasised the need for collective action to control the dengue outbreak.

Dengue outbreak worsens in Rawalpindi

The dengue outbreak in Rawalpindi district has escalated to alarming levels, with a sharp rise in patient numbers and the death toll climbing to seven over the past two months.

In response to the growing crisis, health authorities in Rawalpindi have finalised plans to increase the number of available beds for dengue patients from 600 to 1,000, as the surge in cases continues across the Rawalpindi division.

The Rawalpindi District Health Authority (DHA) has struggled to control the outbreak, despite recruiting additional staff and spending Rs363.2 million on anti-dengue campaigns.

The rising cases have raised questions about the effectiveness of these efforts, especially as the district continues to grapple with the dengue mosquito breeding issue.
