Ke Huy Quan is stepping into the spotlight as a unique action hero in Love Hurts, his first leading role since winning an Academy Award. The film, previously titled With Love, will hit theaters on February 7, 2025.
Quan stars as Marvin Gable, a realtor in Milwaukee with a dark past. His life is thrown into chaos when he receives a mysterious envelope from Rose (Ariana DeBose), a former partner he believed was dead.
Directed by veteran stunt coordinator Jonathan Eusebio (John Wick), Love Hurts features an all-star cast including Daniel Wu, Marshawn Lynch, and Sean Astin. Quan's character is forced to confront a world of hitmen and crime bosses, including his ruthless brother Knuckles, played by Wu. Despite being known for his affable roles, Quan reveals a different side as an action star, blending vulnerability and strength in his portrayal of Marvin.
The actor trained rigorously for three months before filming, taking inspiration from Hong Kong action legends like Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Quan insisted on doing all of his own stunts, despite warnings from his former Everything Everywhere All At Once co-star Michelle Yeoh to leave the heavy lifting to stunt doubles.
Love Hurts promises a thrilling mix of action and emotion, with a standout performance from Quan that breaks the mold of traditional action heroes. Audiences can expect intense fight scenes, raw emotion, and a gripping storyline when the film premieres in early 2025.
