New York Magazine announced on Monday that it has parted ways with political reporter Olivia Nuzzi following an investigation into her undisclosed personal relationship with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
The investigation, conducted by law firm Davis Wright Tremaine, concluded that there were "no inaccuracies nor evidence of bias" in Nuzzi’s reporting during the 2024 campaign, echoing the results of the magazine’s internal review.
In a statement, New York Magazine expressed appreciation for Nuzzi’s nearly eight years as its Washington Correspondent, calling her a "uniquely talented writer." The decision to part ways was made mutually. Nuzzi’s attorney, Ari Wilkenfeld, told Vanity Fair that she was “gratified though not surprised” by the investigation's results, which confirmed that her reporting was sound.
Nuzzi was placed on leave last month after admitting to a personal relationship with Kennedy, though she clarified that the relationship was not physical. She told The New York Times, “Some communication between myself and a former reporting subject turned personal,” adding that she did not cover Kennedy directly during the relationship.
Kennedy’s spokesperson denied any prolonged contact, stating he had only met Nuzzi once for an interview that resulted in what he described as a "hit piece." Nuzzi's profile on Kennedy, published in November 2023, was titled "The Mind-Bending Politics of RFK Jr.’s Spoiler Campaign."
