Pakistan Post will computerise all post offices across the country, including Karachi, under an automation system by next year. According to Postmaster General (PMG) Karachi, Maqsood Ahmed Baloch, every district in Sindh's capital will also have a modern night post office providing 24/7 services.
Karachi has 179 post offices, including the General Post Office. Fifteen small post offices were closed due to losses, and their staff will be reassigned to other offices where needed.
PMG Karachi further disclosed that Pakistan Post is a vital institution for the federal government, providing essential services to the public. These services include parcel and money order services, as well as urgent delivery of important documents.
The postal services are being upgraded gradually. The department is working to computerize major post offices in Karachi first. This automation project is a significant step towards improving Pakistan Post's services and efficiency.
All Pakistan Post staff will receive modern training to handle the new automated system. The goal is to provide better services to the public. Pakistan Post is currently competing with various private institutions in the courier services market, PMG Baloch said, adding that Pakistan Post has revised its business plan keeping the market conditions in view. Our focus now is to increase revenue by providing modern postal services, he said.
Maqsood Ahmed Baloch further revealed that Pakistan Post is working on an e-commerce project.
