MURREE:

Criticising the constitutional amendments, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Sunday that the judiciary should not be subordinate to the government, adding that governments "formed through Form 47 often operate in the dead of night".

Speaking to the media, the leader of the Awaam Pakistan Party (APP) stressed the need for transparency in constitutional amendments.

"At the very least, constitutional amendments should be presented to the public," he said, expressing frustration over the ongoing month-long "pointless debate" on the amendments. "No one knows what's happening," he added.

Abbasi also stressed that it is not the prime minister's role to control the judiciary, reiterating that "the judiciary should remain independent."

In his remarks, Abbasi lauded JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman as the true flag-bearer of democracy in the country, while criticising the lack of transparency in decision-making processes.
