Argentinian police confirmed that Liam Payne was under the influence of a strong hallucinogenic drug at the time of his death. The former One Direction member passed away on October 16 after falling from a balcony at the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires.

The autopsy also showed that Payne had suffered “polytrauma” and both “internal and external hemorrhage,” which caused his immediate death.

On October 18, Buenos Aires police exclusively informed TMZ that Payne had been using a dangerous substance called “Cristal” when he died. The drug reportedly induces aggression and causes users to experience “extreme highs and extreme lows,” according to TMZ.

Police also indicated that this may have explained Payne's erratic behavior, which caused hallucinations and ultimately led him to jump from the third-floor balcony of his hotel room.

Photos of the ‘Strip That Down’ singer’s hotel room were also released exclusively by TMZ. The scene showed champagne bottles, a broken television, and scattered drug paraphernalia, including powders and tinfoil.

In addition to these items, there was also a Dove soap packet, an empty glass, and wax from a candle. Authorities found traces of a white powder that were later identified as cocaine, according to La Nacion, Argentina's largest newspaper.

Investigators also revealed to the publication that they discovered “a bottle of whiskey, a lighter, and a cellphone” in the room.

Some hotel guests told a British news outlet that they witnessed Liam Payne’s final hours. One guest mentioned seeing Payne destroy his laptop in frustration over an email.

The guest recalled: “I went over, asked, ‘Are you okay?’ But he just kind of grunted. Then he said, ‘I used to be in a boy band. That’s why I’m so f**ked up.’”

Another guest, identified as Michael Fleischmann, reportedly saw Payne arguing with a woman in the hotel lobby over money. Payne allegedly said: “I’ll give you $20,000 just because I can. I have $55 million, and I like to help people.”

Fleischmann added that Payne seemed “very upset, agitated, a little wild, walking around and pacing, and seemed very energized.”
