Halsey has spoken out following the tragic death of former One Direction member Liam Payne, who passed away at 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. In a heartfelt tribute shared on Tumblr, Halsey expressed her sorrow, describing how Payne’s untimely passing deeply impacted her both as a former fan of One Direction and as a peer in the music industry.

The "Lonely Is the Muse" singer, 30, recalled her teenage years as a passionate One Direction fan and how becoming a fellow artist made the loss even more personal. She also reflected on purchasing a Calabasas home previously owned by Payne, sharing a memory about a conversation they had regarding rumors of the house being haunted. Payne had reassured her it wasn't, leading Halsey to poetically note that "ghosts that haunt us aren’t tethered to buildings."

The Argentine authorities confirmed Payne died from multiple injuries after falling into the internal courtyard of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel. The autopsy revealed severe head trauma, contributing to both internal and external hemorrhaging, which led to his death. Payne is survived by his son Bear Grey, whom he shared with his ex-partner, Cheryl.
