KARACHI:

Suspected thieves impersonating policemen have demanded a ransom from the owner of a car stolen from the Korangi Industrial Area earlier this week.

Imran Khan's car was stolen from Korangi Industrial Area, Sector 25, on October 11. The CCTV footage of the theft has also emerged in which suspects can be seen driving away the car. Three days later, a carjacking case was registered at Korangi Industrial Area police station and investigation was handed over to the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC ).

On Oct 15, the car owner was contacted by the suspect impersonating policeman through an "unknown number", telling him that if he wanted his car back, then he should transfer money into an account.

As soon as the car owner informed the police, the suspect blocked his number. AVLC officials were informed, but no progress has been made thus far. Police contend that some fraudster might have called the car owner for ransom because such incidents have happened in the past too. Police say that they are using technology to track down the suspect.

According to AVLC SSP Muhammad Arif, three to four such cases have been reported in the recent past, which are being investigated.
