Prison vans to be upgraded for court transport

Punjab Police have launched a project to upgrade the transportation facilities for inmates, ensuring safer and more efficient transfer from jails to courts.

This initiative, launched by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar, involves installing GPS tracking systems and other modern technologies in prison vans across all districts, including Lahore.

As part of this pilot project, Dr Usman Anwar inspected a prison van equipped with these latest facilities. During the inspection, Additional IG Logistics and Procurement, Imran Mahmood, provided a detailed briefing on the van's upgrades.

Dr Anwar emphasised the importance of this initiative, highlighting that the improved vans will enhance both the safety and comfort of prisoners during their transport for court appearances.

He also directed that a formal summary for the necessary funding be prepared and submitted to the Home Department to ensure the continued rollout of these upgrades.

The project aims to modernise all police prison vans throughout the province, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and tracking capabilities.

DIG Telecommunications, Imran Ahmar, also gave a comprehensive briefing on the number of prison vans in use and the resources required for the province-wide upgrades. He mentioned that this pilot project would soon extend to other districts.

High-ranking officials, including AIG Development Sahibzada Bilal Umar, SSP MT Punjab Dr. Anoosh Masood Chaudhry, and AIG Logistics Syed Karar Hussain, were also present at the inspection.
