Shut canteens, block points to push for fee hike rollback

The students of Karachi University assembled outside the office of the vice chancellor on the sixth day of their ongoing protest to voice a their concern on various issues.

The demonstration, led by Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba and Students Alliance, focused on pressing issues including high fees, inadequate facilities, and lack of essential services.

They protesters emphasized their discontent, prompting negotiations with Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi. Although their demands were partially accepted, the students body chose to expand the scope of the protest, warning of escalated action - potentially shutting down government offices within the university premises.

Earlier, the students stopped the points/shuttle service during the protest, causing disruptions for fellow students.

Protesters alleged that Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi had suspended the operation of points, forcing students to find alternative ways to go home. The demonstrators vowed to break their silence and assertively advocate for their rights.

The protesting students criticised the university administration for deteriorating condition of classrooms and exorbitant fee rise. Student leaders formally presented their charter of demands to the Vice-Chancellor.

Following negotiations, the students' organisation announced that Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi had agreed to partially accept their demands.

"Today, the university canteens remained closed, and tomorrow, the students vowed to shut down the entire university."
