Former President Jimmy Carter, 100, has fulfilled his last wish, says grandson.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, now 100 and in hospice care, has achieved his goal of living long enough to vote for Kamala Harris in the upcoming November election. Carter’s grandson, Jason Carter, confirmed the news, saying that the former president voted early as polls opened in Georgia on October 16. 

Carter, the oldest living U.S. president, had expressed his desire to vote for Harris despite his ongoing health challenges.

Jason Carter had previously mentioned that his grandfather remained "very alert" and engaged with both U.S. politics and global events, including the ongoing war in Gaza. Despite being in hospice care since February 2023, Carter has continued to exercise his civic duties, voting in the Georgia Democratic primaries earlier this year.

Carter, who served as the 39th president from 1977 to 1981, has been battling metastatic brain cancer for several years. His wife, Rosalynn Carter, passed away in November 2023. Carter’s determination to vote underscores his commitment to the democratic process even as he faces significant health challenges.
