PESHAWAR:

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to submit all necessary documents related to Senate elections in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

A three-member larger bench headed by PHC Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim heard a petition filed by PTI leader Azam Swati. The petitioner's counsel Advocate Ali Zaman submitted that Senate elections were slated to be held on April 2, but were postponed. The reserved seats' verdict had come in favour of PTI, and the elections should be held in the province as per constitutional and legal requirements.

During the hearing, ECP lawyer Mohsin Kamran informed the court that they had submitted some documents. The PHC CJ asked him as to when the ECP is going to conduct Senate elections in K-P. The ECP lawyer replied that elections could not be held due to reserved seats issue. The chief justice remarked that the Supreme Court had given a detailed verdict on reserved seats. The PHC CJ directed him to submit a written reply in court, explaining why the ECP is not holding Senate polls in K-P and when it plans to conduct the elections.

After the arguments, the PHC directed the ECP to submit the necessary documents and adjourned the hearing till October 22.
