SCO summit spurs increased security

Deployment of personnel ensures law and order in light of current political climate

The Rawalpindi police were placed on high alert to ensure law and order and security due to the country's political and security situation and the ongoing Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.

Under a detailed security plan, more than 45 police checkpoints have been established at the entry and exit points of Rawalpindi policemen have been deployed. More than 1,150 officers and officials have joined duties. Two patrolling teams have been formed at the police station level. The Elite Force will remain on standby.

Overall supervision will be carried out by SSP Operations Hafiz Kamran Asghar, while the responsibility for command and control will be handled by Rawalpindi City Police Officer Khalid Hamdani. An emergency services management and contingency plan has also been prepared for any emergency situations.

Although 3,500 police officers and personnel have already been deployed for the movement of the SCO conference's guests and overall security, a separate security plan has been prepared for today.

As part of this plan, 1,150 officers and personnel have been assigned to special security duties. These include 3 SPs, 10 DSPs, 30 inspectors/SHOs, 138 upper subordinates, 658 constables, one lady inspector SHO, 10 lady constables, 5 Elite Force upper subordinates, 30 constables, 10 constables from the Punjab Reserve Police, and 2 upper subordinates along with 40 constables from the Dolphin Force.

More than 45 police checkpoints have been established at various locations, including entry and exit points connecting to Islamabad, Central Jail Adiala, Murree Road, Faizabad, Peshawar Road, and main roads in the city, cantonment, and surrounding areas. Police officers and personnel have been deployed at these checkpoints, and security around Central Jail Adiala has also been heightened.

In Rawal Division, 13 checkpoints have been established, including at Liaquat Moti Mahal, Liaquat Bagh Mor, Committee Chowk, Chandni Chowk, Hamza Camp Mor, Pirodhai Mor towards the police station, Chak Madad, IGP Road Mor Katariyan, Khanna Pul. Similarly, a total of 19 police checkpoints have been set up in Potohar Division, including at MH Chowk, T&T Chowk, Shalamar Chowk, Pirodhai Mor towards Saddar, Katchehri Chowk, 22 Number Chungi Chowk, Metro Station Saddar, Ammar Chowk, Gulzar-e-Quaid Chowk, JCP Morghah, Margalla Chowk, Taxila Chowk, Wah Garden, and Bahattar Brahma Mor Hakla Interchange.

In Saddar Division, a total of 15 police checkpoints have been established, including at Central Jail Adiala, Biscuit Factory Chowk, Chakri Bazaar, Jorian Mor, Chak Beli Mor, GT Road Gujjar Khan, Mandra Toll Plaza, Daultala Mor, Kahuta Chowk, and Kallar Syedan Chowk.

At the police station level, two police teams have been formed in each station's jurisdiction for patrolling.
