ISLAMABAD:

Political leaders and experts have hailed the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting in Islamabad as a major diplomatic success for Pakistan, holding transformative potential for the country's economy.

Director of the China-Pakistan Study Centre at the Institute of Strategic Studies, Dr Talat Shabbir stated on Tuesday that the Chinese premier's visit to Pakistan will be a game-changer, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

In an interview with PTV News, Shabbir said CPEC is poised to significantly boost Pakistan's economy, with estimates predicting the creation of millions of jobs by 2030. He added that the summit will usher in a new era of cooperation, with CPEC at the forefront of the strategic partnership between China and Pakistan.

Shabbir highlighted that hosting the SCO meeting in Islamabad is a major diplomatic achievement for Pakistan, highlighting its success in foreign policy. This milestone event not only underscores Pakistan's ability to bring influential nations together but also enhances its growing prominence on the global stage. Pakistan's warm reception of delegates further demonstrates its commitment to fostering meaningful dialogue and cooperation, he noted.

He also pointed out that hosting such a high-profile international gathering after a considerable hiatus is a testament to Pakistan's revitalised diplomatic stature. Responding to a query regarding CPEC, Shabbir said that Phase 2 has the potential to transform Pakistan's economy by boosting growth, creating jobs, and enhancing regional connectivity. The SCO conference, led by the Chinese premier, is expected to strengthen bilateral ties and deepen cooperation between Pakistan and China.

In a separate interview, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Khurram Dastgir Khan expressed pride in the government's successful hosting of the SCO summit, highlighting its potential to strengthen bilateral ties and unlock economic opportunities. He described the summit as a historic step in enhancing Pakistan's relationships with neighbouring countries, particularly China, with whom Pakistan has enjoyed warm and cordial relations.

Dastgir added that the SCO summit provides a platform to forge closer ties in areas such as trade, economy, investment, education, defense, agriculture, and culture. He pointed out that the summit reflects the growing trust other nations have in Pakistan and praised the vibrant atmosphere in the capital city during the event.

"The SCO summit has brought together prominent leaders from member states, including China, Russia, India, and Belarus, to foster cooperation in areas like security, economy, and culture," he added.

He also stressed the importance of national unity and maturity in hosting this significant international event, which highlights Pakistan's growing influence among participating nations.
